Johnson, less confused now but reluctant to come between a husband and his wife, would have shaken his head. Perhaps he should suggest scheduling a visit to see him at the office… The miscarriage, Richard would have said, so quietly that the doctor would have had to lean in to hear him. Maybe Richard wasn’t well, he would think. ![]() Johnson would have replied, casting a doubtful look toward Richard as his sweating intensified. Rash? Richard would finally have said, as confused as the doctor had been moments earlier. There would be a pause in the conversation. Did the Mexsana not work? Tell Nellie to call my secretary. Is the rash much worse? he would have asked Richard. Wood had missed something with Nellie, be silently frustrated with the old doctor’s stubbornness and wish he would retire already. Johnson would surely have been confused about Richard’s excessive concern, the anxious tone to his voice. What can we do so this doesn’t happen again? I’m worried about Nellie, Richard would have said to Dr. Always had a right to know what was happening with his wife. ![]() ![]() ![]() Even though I like the Inkworld, I still thought that the book dragged a bit.īut the real problem that I had with Inkdeath was that, even though this is a children's book, the primary child character, Meggie, doesn't really do much. It was like Funke didn't want to let go of the Inkworld herself, and so she introduced new wonders (giants, people living in nests up in trees), and a whole new castle, with a long journey through the woods to get there. It seemed long, and not in that "falling into the book" way. ![]() This makes it very difficult to admit that I actually had a hard time getting through the third book. I liked the first two books in the Inkworld series a lot (I didn't review them because I listened to them on audio, but I enjoyed them both immensely). Don't even think about reading the books out of order. If you aren't familiar with the series, go and read Inkheart and Inkspell, and then come back here when you're finished. I'm not going to give you a plot summary, since I don't want to spoil the book, but I am going to offer up some thoughts about Inkdeath. ![]() Inkdeath is the final book in Cornelia Funke's Inkworld trilogy, after Inkheart and Inkspell.
